youth and children

Education in North Korea is solely based on Kim Il-Sung’s ideology with children only being exposed to Communism and Kim-Ilsungism. Additionally, the North Korean language has significantly diverged in it’s development from the South Korean language. While many of the verbs remain the same, nouns and terms in the North developed from Chinese and Russian influence, while terms in the South developed with heavy English influence. There is also a marked North Korean dialect which often brings discrimination against North Korean children. This all adds to the situation that when North Korean children arrive in other countries, they are significantly behind other children.

English Tutoring, and English Camps are a great way to get involved with the Children and Youth of North Koreans. KRIN helps recruit and send many people on short-term teams, to help these children.

Some of the biggest challenges they face are:

  • Bullying from other kids
  • Lack of education
  • Lack of opportunity
  • Lack of parental involvement
